Upper canine impaction is particularly problematic both for aesthetic reasons as well as because of its impact on occlusion, the shape of the dental arch, and the patient's speech. Impaction affects mandibular canines much more rarely than maxillary canines and because of the lesser role played by mandibular canines the problem sometimes goes unnoticed for a long time. The present study describes two cases involving impacted canines – both maxillary and mandibular – treated surgically and orthodontically. The impacted maxillary canine of one of the treated patients was brought to the dental arch using the closed eruption method while the second was treated surgically with the open window technique.
